FAQs About Hearing Aid Batteries
When is it time to replace my hearing aid battery?
Depending on your hearing loss, the amount of time your hearing aid is worn, and the age of the batteries, you may need to replace it every 3 โ 10 days. Here are some ways to determine when it is time to replace the battery:
- Alerts from your hearing aid
When it is time to change the battery, you may hear 2 or 3 beeps from your hearing aid as a pre-warning. These beeps will repeat at moderate intervals until the battery is depleted. The battery may run out shortly after the pre-warning or within the next few hours. You may hear 4 beeps as the last warning before they turn off completely.
- Hearing aid battery bounce test
To check if your hearing aid battery needs replacement, you can try the bounce test. Simply drop the batteries from a height of 10 โ 15 cm onto a table. If they bounce multiple times, it is time to change them.
Where should I store extra batteries?
For optimal battery performance, store spare batteries in a dry area at room temperature. Refrigerators and freezers are not suitable storage locations. Additionally, areas that are humid or frequently exposed to heat are not ideal โ they can significantly reduce your batteriesโ lifespan.
Furthermore, refrain from carrying loose batteries in your purse or pocket. Contact with coins or keys can cause a short circuit in the batteries.
How do I maximise the battery life of my hearing aid?
To prevent unnecessary battery drain, switch off your hearing aids when they are not in use and keep the battery drawer open overnight. This practice conserves battery power and allows any accumulated moisture to evaporate overnight.
Additionally, when replacing your hearing aid battery, it is important to let the battery rest for 5 minutes after peeling off the sticker. Doing so allows the air to activate the battery, ultimately prolonging its lifespan by several days.
